Medicare Open Enrollment Has Begun

Medicare’s open enrollment period is beginning. Starting October 15th, applications for plans can be accepted. The opportunity to change plans is over as of December 7th. The next period to make changes is the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period.

What’s the Medicare Advantage Enrollment Period?

Medicare Enrollment Period 
starts January 1and ends December 7th. The period of January through to March 31 is an opportunity to make limited changes depending on the coverage you have. During the Annual Enrollment period, you can...

■ If you’re in a Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage), switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage).

■ Disenroll from your Medicare Advantage Plan and return to Original Medicare. If you choose to do so, you’ll be able to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

■ If you enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan during your Initial Enrollment Period, change to another Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage) or go back to Original Medicare (with or without drug coverage) within the first 3 months you have Medicare.

You can’t...

■ Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan.

■ Join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan if you’re in Original Medicare; or have other plan types that allow stand alone PDPs.

■ Switch from one Medicare Prescription Drug Plan to another if you’re in Original Medicare or to a Medicare Advantage plan.
